Hope someone here can help -- I have a 76 f-250 4x4 with front disc brakes.
The other day driving down the road the T shaped steel spacer at the bottom of the caliper. fell out, letting the caliper float free and siezing up the front right wheel. My local mechanic said that the caliper mount (part#D6TZ 2B338 B) and the caliper holder (part#D8TZ 2B292-A) were worn out and need replacing. these parts do not appear to be severly worn. Has anyone else experienced this problem? and where might I find these parts? any help would be greatly appreciated!! thanks Greg Briggs
( P.S. all my local salvage yards have crushed everyting older than 1993)
I will assume the "T" you lost was the caliper support key. These come with a front brake hardware kit, along with a spring and the anti-rattle clips for the pads. You must have lost the support key retaining bolt which caused the key to slide out, these come separate, and only one is used per side. I'm not so sure about what that mechanic said "excessively worn" BAH!!! If you don't think they are that bad I would just get new keys, springs, & bolts and see how it looks then, I'll bet it will be ok, just be sure to clean and grease the slides.
