Is there a kit available to convert a Ford 390 to EFI? or can computers and throttle bodies be salvaged from later model Fords be used to achieve the same result? If anyone has done this and has some concerns/advice/warnings that would be great. Thanks.
Holley has a throttle body injection kit that will/should bolt on. I haven't used it but have thought about it. As far as a TPI goes, you would have to drill an intake and weld bungs on it for the injectors to screw into. Then you would need to plumb and wire it up. Also with either system you will need an electric pump and a return line back to the tank.
Also check in the carb/fi fourum and the FE forum for other ideas.
Been looking for a conversion kit so I can make a killer 67 mustang. I know Holley sells them for 302's and 351's. Edelbrock sells for 289- 351. But I can't find any info on a 390. If you do send it to me as well please.
I'm running the Holley 700cfm TBI Commander 950 system. Physical installation is simple; drill a hole in the collector, weld in the O2 sensor bung, run the wiring, throw it all together.
The hard part is tuning. It's a major PITA. I have yet to get mine running completely right.
There are also several yahoo groups for using the gm ecm and ford eec. And some very knowledgable folks at www.diy-efi.org/diy_efi . The megasquirt by far has the greatest following and best support. On top of the parts you will need to scrounge you will also need a cheap laptop. You can add port injection for very cheap if you're resourceful enough. I'd recomend the megasquirt for starters as the performance is great and there's alot of help if you're having a rough time with something. If your going for nuts out performance with twin turbos and scatterspeed X 2 then TEC3, Motech or haltech might be the path you'd want to take.
