I have a small problem I'm looking for advise on. A while back, I went to a taller tire on my 99 SD 4x4 CC V10. It looks and performs a lot better. Problem is, it no longer fits in my garage because the cab-high topper rubs. The cab itself has abot two inches of clearance.
Here's the question. Since I don't use the truck for hauling or heavy towing, can I get away with going to a shorter rear lifting block than is stock. I think it has about three inch blocks now and I want to know if I can switch to two inch without running into other problems. Will I have to change shocks? Will the ride suffer dramaticaly? Any other hidden problems?
I plan on keeping the stock blocks so I can put it back to stock if I ever sell the truck. Any advise or recommendations would be helpfull.
The 4x2 Superdutys have 2in blocks standard and they still sit as high as a stock F150 4x4, cool. I bet you could go to 2in blocks with no other modifications needed..
Now that I think about it, I think ford switched the F350 dually's to 2in blocks because the 4in blocks caused the truck to be too high for many 5th wheel trailers.
I had my 99 F350 4X4 S/C V-10 Lariat with the off road package lowered under Fords warranty program (I understand that they will no longer do it on the 2000 models). They removed the 4" blocks and installed 2" blocks in their place. They also changed shocks, brake lines, and some nuts and bolts. If you want the parts list let me know as I have it on file. The truck looks fine, rides and handles the same as before the lowering job. I can also reach stuff in the bed easier than before. I am happy with the results.
I sure would like the parts list if you could post it here. My truck is a 99 so I wonder if they will still do the work on it. I'm going to talk to the dealer on Monday and run it by them.
I am glad to hear that your truck benifited from the drop. I'll bet it does look great and I hope mine handles as well as yours does after the drop.
Here is what my work order from Ford Of Kirkland (Washinsgton) lists for parts. 1.F81Z-18125CM shock absorber (2). 2. F81Z-5705-XA U-bolt. 3. N620485-556 Nut.3.F81Z-2282-KA Hose Asy. Br. 4.F81Z5598-NA SPCR-RR SPG RH 5. N811667-S436 Bolts (4) 6. N6220485-S56 Nuts (8). There has been quite a bit of discussion about the two inch blocks. My understanding is that the TSB says they need to go in but they are deleted from the diagram so some shop are leaving them out. Big mistake, the truck does sit level but will not take a load. Make sure that the blocks go in. Good luck!, it should be done under warranty on 99s, tell them you want to tow a fifth wheeler.
I'm interested in seeing how he would tow a 5th wheel trailer with the cab high topper on it..
Just kiddin around.. I think thats the story he should tell, ' I'm lookin to tow a 5th wheel'.
