My wife and I went to the Outer Banks about 3 years ago. Rented A house on mile marker 19.5. At that time there was A buffet at mile marker 18 ( I Think ) called Bad Barracuda. That was pretty good. We had Crabs at Dirty Dicks ( yes thats the name of the restaurant ) It was kinda like Hooters on the Outer Banks. You are able to drive on all beaches. I liked it there alot, we talk often about going back.
Have fun
Steve

We make several trips a year there fishing. My favorite place to eat is the Dolphin Den. The little restraunt by the red drum tackle also is good. You can air your tires back up at the red drum or dillons across the street. We mainly fish around the point near the lighthouse. Also have been out around the oregon inlet bridge but you have to watch it high tide. They have started restricting driving to within 150' of the high tide mark. Hope this helps

There a place in Buxton called Pops Place. The best hushpuppies I ever had. Quiet little hole with nice people. Very cold beer too. If the hurricanes left it alone, should still be there. Havent visited since July 2000.
Take the walk up the Hatteras Light House. Its worth the climb.
The Oregan inlet is neat at tide change, and good for fishing. Ocracoke Island is a neat place. Get to take the ferry and all.
Watch out for the old man on the moped. Some drunk guy hit him and kept od driven one night. As all the cars wait in line the old man comes limping up looking at cars for damage. He found him, and threatened all kinds of violence in return. Police picked up the guy when we all got of the ferry on the other side.
I much prefer the beaches of Pea Island National Refuge. Empty beaches. If you like busy beaches.......Nags Head and Duck are good places for crowded beaches.
I wish I could remember the name of the restaurant with the awsome Conch fritters.
