Wow ! Have not been on the Ford Truck site in a while and did not know there is a audio forum. Hope someone has some input on my problem. I purchased a Pioneer am/fm/cd unit. It is the (I think) DEH 2500. I do not like it. Fortunatly at Circuit City you have 30 days to return. The display did not look bad in the store, but in my 1995 F-150 at night it is very distracting. It's way too bright. The blue background reflects on the back window and is just annoying. I am one of the ones who like AM radio. The reception on this unit is horrible. The Ford radio was great for this. Not a big deal but I also do not like beeping every time I press a button. I am thinking of gettin the Alpine CDM9821. It is on sale and has is basic. No background color, just green numbers (kind of match the truck), no beep, and easy controls.
Any opinions on the Alpine or any suggestion on a unit with good AM reception? Also any suggestion on speakers? My Ford factory ones are not too good. Not the fault of Ford, the previous owner of truck got the one wet and it sounds terrible. Thanks !!!!
Just an Update that could be helpful. I returned the Pioneer and went with the Alpine. I am very satisfied. The tech at Circuit City said everybody complains about AM reception on aftermarket units. Apparently the stock radios are best for AM. He said Delco leads the pack for AM and the stock Ford is also very good. The Alpine unit does however have way better sound, AM reception, and looks alot better. About the only thing that could be better is the aftermarket units do not cover the complete opening and a gap shows on top of the unit. I can live with that.
