Stuck Glowplug

I have a stuck glowplug in the drivers side front cylinder. I am leaving it to soak overnight with penetrant oil. I read one of the links here that said to put the piston on TDC to keep the tip from falling down in the cylinder if/when it breaks off.

Has anyone tried this? Any suggestions? My plan is to do this and pull the injector out to see down in the pre-chamber. Once that is done I need to know if you can see anything down in there. Is there a way to put something over the hole going into the cylinder to keep the tip from falling in there, or the pieces if it explodes. Secondly, is there any trick to pulling on the plug with a puller or something like that? I've got access to quite a few tools, so I can find or make most of what I need. I just don't want to pull a head if I don't have to.

And yes, it probably is an ac or autolite plug. There seems to be one of every kind except beru/motorcraft on this engine.

Any tips on the injector and plug other than putting a new washer under the injector? Is Ford or Int'l the only sources of these washers?

Thanks.

I stick a small magnet down the injector hole and catch the piece as it breaks off.

Look for an injection shop nearby for the best deal on parts.

yeah, take your time and work the plug back and forth(tighten to loosen)very slightly each time, eventually the plug should break loose and spin out, again take your time.any local injection shop can get those washers.good luck.

It came out after working on it for 3 hours. Thought I was gonna quit a time or two. Finally came out in one piece.

Has anybody ever thought of drilling the holes out bigger so this can't happen?
