why did ford change the linkage in 66. my 61 & 63 & 64 have the rod type. both my 66s have a cable granted iv planted newer v-8s in both and the rod would have been much better i think.
has any one tried to put the old rod type in a 66? any reason why not to change back?
I used a rod and pedal assembly from a 1977 f-150 I had to drill the pedal mount holes differ a little if I remember but it works great been over 3 years Hope this helps !
To offer a different thought, I prefer the cable. It outlasts the rod type, in my opinion. However, it is is more easily damaged if you aren't careful.
My '66 has a cable which has lasted for more than 20 years. I had to change it because I bent the original when I jacked the motor up to change the oil pump.
However, the rod and lever linkage on my son's '72 is so sloppy from wearing out that it is hard to get it to work right. It often binds up.
Just my experience.
I agree with Banjo! I have used the cable on lots of trucks. Granted, I am building modified or hotrodded trucks too. The cable is more forgiving as far as alignment goes.
