i plan on ordering a 2001 F250 C.C. 4x4. i'm just debating on which motor to get. i plan on hauling a toy box (24ft.) with dirtbikes only. i'm leaning towards the V10, but the diesel has better mpg. any suggestions?? also manual or auto? i prefer manual, but people are telling to get auto if i'm going to haul a trailer. what do you think about the blue denim seats?
a. If you prefer manual, then get it. Both are excellent tranny's. I too prefer the feel of my 5sp, and its getting about 2mpg better mileage than the same truck with the 4r100 auto tranny.
b.You'd have no problem haulin the 24' with dirtbikes/tools/gear/watertank etc with the V10.
Obviously the diesel will pull it without a problem and get better mpg as well, but you'll get pretty decent mpg with the v10 + 5sp + 3.73. I think you'd be in the 14 or 15mpg range.
go for the diesel my 99(3-98)model V-10 5 spd 4:30
gets 10-13mpg solo with tonno cover and lately around 9-10 pulling a 22' box with a camaro inside . Goes like hell on the flat but hills slow it down. As far as auto vs manual I am considering an auto /diesel combo for my next one
V10 crew cab short bed 4X4 and Power Stroke crew cab long bed dually, both 1999's, both automatics. The Power Stroke is much better for long range or heavy hauling (we haul horse trailers cross country), the V10 is more pleasant to drive around on a daily basis and is much cheaper to buy and service. We do use the V10 to haul trailers too and it's got plenty of power but needs frequent fuel stops due to lower gas mileage and smaller tank.
I would like to thank everyone for thier advice, I will consider everyones advice when the time comes to order the truck. thank you all and in advance, jthomas
