Changing Brakes

I have a 2000 Ranger 4X4 Supercab. I am somewhat mechanically inclined and would like to change the front brake pads on my own. How difficult is this? Do I need any special tools. Thanks in advance for any advice.

i just changed the brakes on my 01 Ranger yesterday, its pretty easy but can be messy.
All you need is:
1. A tire tool
2. Jack
3. Socket (mine was 9/16")
4. and of course brakes

When you change the front pads, couple things to look for. Check the front rubber brakes lines, these can get dry and crack. Also when you change front pads, ALWAYS get the rotors machined if they can be, or get new rotors. Never put new pads on old rotors, waste of money. You do not need any special tool. Do not take the caliper off the line, unless you have to change the lines. Probably would not hurt the bleed the brakes. Just have someone in the cab, and have them push on the brake, open up the little bleeder valve and close it before fluid stops, and do that 5 or so times.

Actually, 78Fordman, The OE replacement pads from Bendix that I put on my 2000 XLT had a rotor conditioner already applied, no turning or sanding off glaze necessary... It now stops better than when it was new, and I've had no problems whatsoever. My only recommendation: Get the blue brake goo stuff (The good pads should come with it anyway) and make sure you apply it to keep sqeaking down.
