Webmaster, I can't send you email, I can't send you private messages. What happened to signatures? I look at my settings and my signature is there. Post a message, no sigs.

User Signatures

After repeatedly having to explain the signature guidelines to users only to have them either argue with us about them, point at others and say "why don't you get them as well", etc. I've decided to turn off signatures.

Admins, moderators, FTE Sponsors and Club FTE members will have signatures turned on. All other users will not.

Please, no arguing about it or disagreeing with the decision --- it won't change it. We've simply spent too much time having to deal with users who either don't read the announcements or think that because we haven't gotten to someone else's yet that this somehow exempts them from the policies.

The forum software will be undergoing a major upgrade this week or early next week, and signatures will be obsoleted at that time anyway (due to a feature I've written).

Humm, seems like an Overly aggressive move to eliminate the signatures. It makes much more sense to limit the number of characters or lines available...rather than eliminate the signatures. Plus, this also eliminates the need to continue to post and re-post the limits the signatures should have in the first place.

Anyway...I guess what is done...is done.

I do believe that Ken has already tried to limit the number of characters for signatures. It was reduced to 200 characters. But people still kept putting things in there that are against the rules even after Ken has repeatedly asked them not to. I am one who is all for taking signatures away. Just since he has taken them down here, this site is much faster with my dial up connection.

Just an example of what a signature should not be is where it lists every little thing about the truck. There is a member on another site that I will not name the person or will not post the actual sig, but it is 15 lines long. It lists every little detail including the GVW and even the ignition put into it. I don't need to know all of that.

Great job Ken

Correct he has tried many ways, and the 15-line person forgot the type of fuel he uses.
There is some folks that posted pictures of their truck, forgetting the gallery is for that.
It does slow things down; you want pictures put them in the gallery.

It's Ken's "playground" and we should play by his rules. The "price" to pay for being apart of the best site on this issue (Ford). No Agruments from me.....

Trust me on this one... and ask the moderators: the new feature replacing signatures is light years ahead of the current system.

Also, I'll repeat what I've repeated a hundred times:

User feedback goes in the User Feedback forum section. Expecting me to read all 3000+ daily post is unrealistic, and insensitive to time constraints.

Yes, I've turned off contact in my profile. I got tired of people contacting me about every question they have about their truck as if I'm some sort of free librarian who knows the answer to every possible Ford question. Frankly, I work enough hours per day managing the site and the hundreds of daily contact emails I receive have gotten to be too much. It may get to a point where I stop using email altogether except to handle advertisers --- I'm on the verge of turning off the email address I've used for 7 years.

Topic is closed. See the 5 billion posts about this subject already in the User Feedback section.
