Unhappy 2000 Explorer Brake Problems

I have a problem. My Explorer (2000 Limited V8 5.0L AWD) brake's are terrible. For some reason or another I need to push the pedal almost to the floor to get any stopping power. I have checked the fluids, they are fine, I had them bleed out and that wasnt the problem, I have also had the pads and rotors checked, they are all fine. I have heard this complaint from many different people with an Explorer from the same genre. Is there something I can do or have done to fix this? I would like to be able to sound like I know what I am talking about when I bring it to my mechanic (if needed, or if its something I can do myself, all the better). Thanks!

EDIT: I forgot to add that I have ABS.

I had a very similar problem with my 2001 sport trac with the addtional problems of severe brake squealing and ALOT of brake dust being generated in a short period of time. ( I would have to washt the wheels at least twice a week or they would turn black from the brake dust)

The dealership finally had to replace my rotors and brake pads, ( free of charge ) it seems that when I had the dealership change my pads recently that they put on some cheap *** pads that eventually ruined the rotors ( they were almost completely blue when they removed them ) the dealership said that the material that the new pads were made of was causing the brakes to be sluggish and squeal.

Since they changed the rotors and put OEM pads on the sport trac my brake problems have gone away.

all i can say about your problem is go with Wagner Thermoquiet brake pads (they are a bit pricey but well worth it) and Raybestos rotors. I use both on my 98 Explorer and I am very pleased!!
