Question Dual Exhaust

I purchased a dual exhaust kit from a well known supplier and have some interferance problems. The drivers side exhaust pipe first hit the clutch lever. After fixing that, it next hit the throw-out bearing lever. I fixed that with a little grinding but it is still very close. Has any one else had this problem? I know I have the origional manifold, and am assured that the pipe is correct. maybe I am just overlooking something. Thanks

I think most of these are designed for automatics...that's the problem. In all my header installs, the throw out arm always hit the collector flange. Big block and small block applications. I always had to modify the pipe to make it fit and NOT rub or catch.

My '67 had duals and I think they were custom made and had lots of room. That is until I put headers on it and everything was in the way . A welder is a mechanics best friend

Thanks Freight, I have it working now but I will have to drill another hole in the arm for the TOB spring. I think you are right, if it were an automatic there would be no problem.

You said you are running the stock manifold? Not a header? I do not know. I have headers on both of my trucks and the 302 has lots of room (So to speak) but the 390 has no room. I dont think I could even change the started without lifting the engine to move the header far enough to pull out the starter. In other words, I have to take off the header, lift the engine and remove the header with the starter! I will be looking for a custom set up real soon!

On the drivers side, I have plenty of room everywhere, and I have a manual trans too. Go figure.

PS
The 302 has pace setter mustang headers and the 390 has Headman headers. (Truck came with the headmans when I bought it.)

Yea, its the 390, it's not the first problem I have haad to work around but I guess thats one of the things that make it a hobby. Just in case you are interested i acquired an MG Midget. When I work on it that is a complete change of mindset. Thanks for the reply.

On my 352, I welded the collector reducers right to the header and took off the loose flanges. That way there was nothing in the way of linkage. Had to do that with my '69 also. It has an old set of Blackjacks on it from early 80's. I know they probably have changed things slightly since then. I still welded it though to make sure nothing hit.
