'86 4x2 ball joints

'86 4x2 ball joints
I was looking at my ball joints on my '86 150 4x2 and saw what looked like a sleeve popping out around the passenger side upper ball joint. The outer edge of the passenger side tire is really wearing down. The drivers side tire looks fine
The drivers side looked like the ball joint was set into upper axle without any type of sleeve.
Are there different upper ball joints for each side? The parts store say's no; but, I am sure they are different.
If I do replace the passenger side ball joints, should I also change the drivers side.
Any advise would be helpfull.
