Running board removal

I recently bought a 98 E350 that has full length running boards on it. Apparently a former driver wasn't very cautious and a did a nice job on the rear flares. I don't really need running boards so I was wondering how hard it is to remove them?
If it's just the screws and bolts holding them then I'm cool but I don't know if there was maybe some double sided tape on the flares to stick to the paint. I'm not looking to damage the paint obviously but don't care for the boards either. I figure they've seen better days and if they're gone I'll save a little weight and drag for gas mileage (not a lot but every bit helps).

Thanks,
Chad

Running boards are not all that diffucult to remove.

I just removed mine last week & it took about 30 minutes to do it. All my bolts will rusted up pretty bad that everytime I turned the ratchet the bolts broke off, may it go real easy.

Now I just got to go figure out where to hang these damn nerf bars.
