Got a '03 F350 4X4 6.0 auto CC dually. Sometimes when I'm backing up under load, up a hill and/or with a trailer hitched up, reverse doesn't seem to have the oomph to move me. I can floor it, but it barely crawls if at all. No problem without a load. I need to bring it into the dealer for some other warranty items and I'll have them check this too, but I figured I'd see if any of you all have experienced this. Any thoughts?
Thanks all. Hot Spot: good thought but that ain't it. Trailer brakes definitely aren't energizing. HDMust: tranny fluid's fine.
But ... here's a wild thought! These beast's have antilock brakes, right? Do you suppose something's happening there where wheel skid is being detected in reverse and brakes are applying? It would make sense, as it only happens when trying to back up under load, uphill and/or on a loose surface when one would expect the wheels to slip. Any thoughts on that theory?
Had that problem with mine. Can't remember for sure but it was either a blown gasket leaking pressure through to another area or a valve doing that; and the flows canceled out the reverse. I could back up on flat ground but if I had to back up going uphill putting a load on it, I would get about 20 feet before it would lock up.
