Electronic Shift...not what you think...help!
I have a 92 Ranger, 4.0, 4x4. The electronic shifter stopped working this last summer and I am now getting around to fixing it. I have seen the other posts on pulling off the shifter motor and am in the process of fixing this. However, the posts I have read seem to say that you can manually shift this once you have the motor out. But, it seems like they say this can be done very easily, like just with your hand. I have tried to turn the cam on the transfer case just to make sure it moves, but it doesn't!!! Is it really supposed to be super easy to move/shift? If so, is it likely my transfer case is seized up? Or does it actually take some effort to shift this by hand? I am hoping to fix this motor tonight and reinstall tomorrow, solving the problem, and am hoping that I don't also have to rebuild the transfer case.
I tried to move the cam with the tranny in gear, in neutral, truck running, and shut off. Couldn't do it in any of them. Thanks in advance for the help.
