I have a new F250 4x4 Supercab Lariat 142 in. wb. Styleside 5.4L efi V8 Engine 6-spd manual o/d-hd Trans.
THIS COMBINATION OF TRUCK HAS NO ENGINE BRAKING!
Ford is aware of the problem and are working on it. Totem service in Vancouver could only find one like mine in B.C. and have had that truck test driven and found the same problem.
I guess it only applies to your specific year/type of truck.
2003 F250 XL 4x2 Regular Cab 137 in. wb Styleside 5.4L SEFI V8 engine 6-spd manual o/d hd trans has plenty of engine braking. Maybe you can be more specific as I don't see the problem. Maybe it's just on 4WD supercabs. I'm currently running 3C3A-EB with firmware release FMW1 dated 05/01/2003. (PCM/flash release.)
Yes you are right this problem is very specific to this combination of Truck. Love my Truck otherwise and am shure Ford will wright a new program for this combination.
I have an 04 reg cab 5.4l 6 speed man, and it has very little engine braking! It will only slow you down if your in 1st or 2nd. If your in any other gear and let off the gas you just keep going. I thought it was just how the SD was, but now that I think about it my other trucks would slow you down in any gear.
You are right we buy a standard transmition so we can have more controle in any gear.The service manager at Totemford in Vancouver told me today they found another truck like mine in Trail, B.C. The service manager in Trail took it out for a drive and found that truck also had no engine breaking at all but the customer was not complaining about it, seems to me the service manager should have complained for him.
I have an '04 SC XL 4x4 short bed 5.4L 6 spd. I had the service dept. check it out because the engine was holding higher RPMs with the clutch depressed until the truck completely stops. I was told it was a break-in issue. The truck does seem to cruise rather than decelerate appreciably when I take my foot off the gas in any gear other than 1st or 2nd. Any of this sound like your issue?
Ernie:
I have been dealing with the same thing on my 2001 V-10 5-speed. Do you notice that when you push in the clutch to shift to the next gear, that the engine stays at high rpm for a while, sometimes that it will even go to a higher RPM than it was before you started the shift?
If so, I may have something to add...

Mike & Zuhound;
Both of your Trucks have similar symtoms to mine, the one difference is that mine takes off in any gear (even in 1st gear in low range) it slows down more if I kick it into neutral!
