I'm another newbie here, and this is my first question (that I have needed to post anyway). I attempted the 10k, but was unable to ever get the SES light to go out. I have searched the forums and have only found instances where this occured and was corrected by additional attempts to "plug" in the resistor/connector. I tried many times with no avail, by both just pushing the resistor into the rubber boot, and completely through the connector, then bending the hooks on the ends to be inserted into the factory terminal, and always on the blue/green and the gray/red. I finally threw in the towel after about a dozen and a half times (it was getting very late-didn't think the neighbors would appreciate the "Rattlers" evening serenade). I purchased a 10K 1 watt resistor from RadioShack. So what did I miss? do I need to just continue my unplug/plug routine? Thanks to all in advance, you have all been a great deal of help, answering so many questions before I had the need to ask!! You'll be hearing more from me soon!
First try to check the terminal ends of the wires you sodered to each end of the resistor. You should have current thru the wire. If you cold soldered, you may not have gotten a good connection. If you overheated the resisitor, you may have fried it.
Second, is the SES light working?
Third, check to see if you have an internal error code...

If you have a chip installed, the 10K mod will not show much if any improvement. Still not sure why no SES light...
Sorry, should have stated that, I didn't solder to start-wanted to see what happened before making anything final, I typically solder everything that's permanent. But anyway, I just used butt connectors to start, and I did ohm out the resistor just to verify it was fine, shows about 10k of resistance. I do have the SES light, and that's the problem, it won't go out if the resitor is installed, goes out if removed, and back on if I disconnect the sensor all together, all done just to verify everything else seemed to be in check.
sorry, also no chip------yet!!! that's after the gauges, they just arrived today! after the intake-just around the corner, and the by-pass filter, and the exhaust, and the......can you tell, the bug has bitten another, REAL BAD!!!
I had the exact opposite prob with the same result. first attempt no ses light, great, but no dif in performance, bad. With no resistor and icp unplugged still no ses light, that's where it gets strange. No improvement with resistor installed
