someone please help me on this one~~can I take the oil pan off of my rear sump I6 without removing the engine~~my oil pressure is fluctuating below acceptable limits~~someone has had to of tried this before to change an oil pump or maybe I'll be the first because I see a good bit of clearance under there
On my 88 Bronco 4.9L, I had to raise the motor, drop the oil pan onto the cross member, reach up into the oil pan and remove the oil pump pick up tube and the oil pump. Then I was able to get the pan out. That is what the manual says, as well.
The manual states to disconnect the mounts, raise the engine and stick a couple of 2x4"s between the mounts and the frame, but I just used a cherry picker and let the motor hang.
just a heads up on doing this, i did this last week on my 86 f150
be ready to move trans back if you don't have an engine hoist.
I had mine up on 4x4's and barely had room to get the pan out
past flywheel. Looking back, should have put more thought into the job.
