SD PLANT
i just returned from a month long stay at the SD plant in KY. it was AWESOME watching truck after truck roll off that line. have some good news to.....we just installed a new robotic welding cell that is designed to increase prodution. the excursion side is to start building some of the crew cabs to relive some of the stress on the truck side of the plant. this should increase production quit a bit. before the truck plant was producing 70 trucks an hour
1) any way have a couple quick questions: what kind of gas mileage is the v10 w/ 3.73LS getting?
2) has any one had any problems w/ their hubs stripping out?
3) how does the v10 ride around 80-85mph?
getting ready to order one.....just deciding what to order...any info would be great!
Hubs..... are manual and mine have had no problems.
Ride....my Y2K V-10 F250HD Supercab 4x4 rides just great. Wasn't stiff enough for the hauling I do so added three leaf springs and the Rancho RS-9000 Shocks. They are adjustable and are GREAT. The springs are progressive so aren't working until loaded.

OK, here's my experience with my '99 F-250 SD SC V-10 AT 3.73LS Lariat with factory Firestone 2.65 all terrains and a big Century camper shell installed, and with a Banks Powerpack exhaust:
Initial mileage {first 33K miles) with a Superchip installed was 11.1 mpg @ 75mph on each 570 mile weekly round trip using cruise control.
Since installing a Paxton Novi 2000 supercharger, the mileage has actuall gone UP (!) 0.4mpg.
You might consider going for the 4.10 (or even the 4.30:1) rear end rather than the 3.73LS, as my experience with the latter ratio is that it may HURT your mileage by asking a lot from the resulting low-revving engine (2200-2300 @ 75). The 3.73 will have to downshift frequently in hilly country just to maintain cruising speed, so there goes your hopes for high mileage.

The ride? That Super Duty rides much like a Lincoln Town Car (only better, being heavier and extremely stable) at 85mph. It's marvelously comfortable at ANY speed.
My hubs are the Shift-on-the-Fly type, and didn't always engage/disengage in Alaska winter temperatures. Ford replaced them with an improved product, and that solved the problem for me.
Good luck, and you're sure to enjoy your new Super Duty!
Tom
