I'm getting an Expedition....Finally!

Well after all of the questions about 7-9 passenger vehicles, the wife has finally tracked down the vehicle she wants and is picking it up tomorrow. And we are now Expedition owners!!!

1997 Expedition Eddie Bauer edition, 62k miles, 5.4, leather seat, all the bells and whistles minus the sunroof, 2 sets of tires (studs and All terrain) for $13,000. That is about $1000 more than I wanted to spend, but we got it from the original owner who had some emotional ties to it and would not let it go for less than that. She was originally asking $14K.

I feel that we paid too much, but most of the 97's that I saw either had tons of miles or at the dealerships they wanted $16k ++.

What do you guys think?? Way too much? There are just not many vehicles to pick from up here in Alaska and the wife seems to like it, so that is all that matters.

Now what do we do with her 1999 Jeep Cherokee?? My oldest son turns 16 next month and I think that the Jeep would be a good vehicle for him. He on the other hand seems to like a Honda hatch back, I told him that when he is paying the bills that he can get what he wants.

Anything that needs to be done to the Expedition right away? I'm thinking fluid changes all around and an engine detail. Other than that the truck should be good to go.

Now I can keep the wife out of my Super duty!

p.s. Do you think she'll let me get a new Harley??

Hey Tony, congratulations! I just got my Expy Friday afternoon from :CoughCalsCough: and although I love the truck, I probably could have paid less.

I got a 2000 XLT, 5.4, 31k (!) miles, power everything. It's not an E.B. which is what I really wanted, but my wife was afraid of miles. Did you check the rear washer? I noticed my rear wiper blade does not work. I checked the fuse, and that's not it...We paid $18.5 for it.

They did throw in a new windshield, cd/cass radio and new tires all the way around, plus the studs are sweet. Where did you find out about your truck?

I meant to add, I'm buying a 2000 Jeep Cherokee sport for me next week! Paying $7k for it with 60k miles... good deal, eh?

62K is low mileage for a 97, so you would expect to pay a premium price in excellent condition. Congrats

videousaf,

I'm considering getting an extended warranty for the Expy, I got one for the Jeep. My Jeep had 40k miles and was certified plus I got the wrap around warranty, so in all I have a 4 yr/40k mile warranty on the Cherokee. That cost me $900 but it is a Chrysler warranty. How much do warranties cost for an older Expy??? I don't know, don't even know if one is available.

Good price on the Jeep, my 99 with warranty and 40k miles cost me close to $12k last year at a dealer, they wanted $16k initially.

I initailly wanted to buy the wife an Aerostar extended bed 4x4, but she vetoed me and that was that. I could have gotten an equivalent Aerostar for around $5k, but the wife would not be happy, so neither would I.

Thanks to all, I'll be around here asking questions, just as I do over in the Super Duty board. I'll try to keep the questions short, but as this is my first Expy, I may have a few at first.

Thanks

Tony in AK (temporarily in CA attending training)

I just paid 13,900 for my 98 expy xlt 4.6L with 40,000 miles in mint condition. My friend bought it for me at a dealer only auction.
