Question 351 m performance build up

Hey all I was just wondering if any one has any input as to a "power recipe" for a 351 m. What I want is a truck that will beat a mustang cobra in a drag. I do not want it to be a hauler or a 4x4 trail dog. Like I said I would really just be using it to blow away chevys and those stupid rice rockets. To me nothing says ford like getting your butt kick by an older TRUCK!!!! Any help and ideas would be great.

You should be able to build a real butt kicker with that money. The first step is to research all the information on this site and other sites with info on building the 335 series.

Money spent on parts that you can't use is money that you will not have for the parts that you really want.

Then you have to decide how streetable you want it, and do you need to meet emissions standards.

Any one on this site will tell you to get a 400 crank and pistons to start.

You will need a set of headers, so you should look ahead and determine if you can get headers suitable for your build. You don't have to get them right away.

The next decision is Heads, Cam, and Pistons. These are all interdependant and subjective. That is what you select should be based on what you want to achive. You said it is not a hauler or trail dog, but is it a daily driver? If so, you want to use some moderation in your compression ratio and cam duration.

One parameter that is often overlooked in buidups is head flow. I already mentioned headers, but you need to insure adequate headflow as well to allow the motor to produce the power to its potential. Stock heads are good with some porting work done. There are now some aftermarket heads which have superior headflow.

Read the info here and think about it a while, then come back and ask about the build that you have in mind.

if your looking for headers i would recommend allperformanceparts.com they have hedman fenderwell headers for 220.59 which to me is a good price and they are what iam going to order for my truck they are 1 5/8 primary and 3" collector and they have them for 2wd and 4wd auto or standard...... just a thought...........sorry about that just checked for ya they are 1 3/4 primary with 3" collectors and are not fenderwell exit for the 2wd with auto but with 4wd/auto they are the federwell exit.....but i would recommend hedman anyway
