I recently went through a dealers 2001 manual for the same truck as you have ordered, and I saw no indication of any engine HP and TQ changes. Maybe changes, if any, had not made it to printing deadline of the manual-or perhaps the dealer is not aware of it yet. Could be there are NO changes...the V10 is quite an engine anyway, but I would like to see a little better mileage out of it. The changes being made to the 2001 are very minor, ie: 6 disc in-dash changer, sewing on the Lariat's leather seats some tire options...
How much weight will you be hauling? I cannot decide between the 4.3 and the 3.73. I don't do that much towing, but when I do tow, it is a car trailer loaded with a jeep through the Colorado Rockies. Should this warrant the lower gear? Do you have any experience with mountain towing? Or have you heard anything on this? How about daily driving mileage? It is going to be affected by the lower gears? Thanks for any help.
Let's face it, these trucks are not going to get good fuel economy. Most of the 4x4 Superdutys are getting 10-12mpg city. Let's say the 3.73's get 1mpg better than the 4.30's. If you average 12K miles a year @ 12mpg you'll use 1000 gallons of gas. The 4.30's will use 1090 gallons. At $1.35 a gallon, the difference is about $121 over the year or $10 a month. In my opinion, the advantages of having the 4.30's are worth 10 bucks a month.
I did catch you reply, thank you. I can use all the help I can get figuring out what I want this truck to do for me..it is not exactly an inexpensive purchase...
When is your truck scheduled to arrive?
Dan
DAN, I ordered on 8-10 so I am a few weeks away from a build date. Dealer said 8-10 weeks total. I also just learned that the 4x4off road package is on "commodities control" which means their out of material and won't build anymore until that changes. This could slow my truck. There is also the same control on the camper package.
What do you mean by "commodities control". I ordered a 2001, 350, CrewCab, 4x4, SRW, V10 on July 28th. I did not order the Off-Road package but did order the Camper package. I was wondering what affect this "commodities control" was going to have on my delivery time. I have not heard anything from the dealer about a delivery date or a delay because of "commodities control". Is there any way of finding out more information about this and the affect it will have on my truck?

Congratulations on the truck. The way I understand it is that Ford will not accept any orders with an option that is on commodity control until it is lifted, basically they don't have the hardware available to put the Off Road or Camper package on. I am going to post a new topic to see if anyone else has experience with it.
Coincidentally I'm a Young as well.
