I have some extra time on my hands and wondering if I should change the fluid in my transfer case and transmission. The truck has aboutr 140,000 miles on it.
Is there any precautions or guidlines that I should follow when I do this?
What weight of gear oil should I use?

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Man, a gallon thats quite a bit. Is there a plug or do I have to unbolt them. I guess I haven't looked at the tranny yet but I don't think there is a plug on the case.
Is ATF just a general product or do I have to order the correct weight?

ATF is automatic transmission fluid, it's all the same. There should be two plugs on the tranny case, one low and one about 1/2 way up. low one is drain, high is fill/check. fill through the top hole until it starts to come out the same hole.
