removeing running boards

I was just wondering if anyone has ever went with the removed running boards look and if there is any pictures of it out there, especially the 53-56 years?

I seen a 53 with out the boards at a swap meet 1 time, in addition to that they cut off what looked to be about 6-8" off the front and back fenders, for what resin i do not know, it really did not look good to me at all. It looked like it was incomplete. I guess i just like those fords with the boards. your friend fever.

Hi

There was one in a issue of Custom Truck or Custom Classic Truck last year. The whole truck looks kind of odd to me (big blower sticking out of the hood and the front pan was really small) but if you cut the fenders the right amount and set it on the ground it may look good.

Personally I would cut some out of the middle of the front fender at the grill area just to make the grill a little smaller and pie cut the hood one inch. Starting at zero at the cowl to one inch at the front.

When you channel it you will need to cut the air deflectors anyway so why not put in a custom grill.

More Work!

I still havn't decided on the channel yet, thats why i brought up the running board question, if they look ok without that means i won't have to relocate them down as well (less work)

I don't think it would look that good without boards either. However, the thought crossed my mind some time ago about the possibility of using some kind of aftermarket running board designed for vans or Jeeps that might work...don't know if something like that could be worked in to look right or not. There's also those shorty running boards that come on the larger trucks with stake beds that attach to the front fenders but end just past the cab...

Hi

Ok with no channel I would leave the boards on.

One other thought way back when I was young they would remove the rubber strip under the cab and raise the boards till the upper flange was near the cab ( I guess they thought that was cool).

That silver truck on the cover of classic truck was sold recently. Rumor has it that the owner wanted $125k, but only got $55k at auction. And the kicker is that Tim Allen bought it, so maybe we'll be seeing it on tv. I say keep the running boards stock. John
