Stereo removal
Can someone please tell me how to remove the factory AM/FM CD-Cassette deck from my 99 Super Duty? I am trying to find a nasty rattle in the dash, and it seems to be coming from directly behind the stereo. I have removed the glove box, but cannot find anything loose or rattling in that area anyway. I have tried to bend a piece of heavy guage wire and stick it into the 4 holes in the front of the stereo face, but cannot pull it from the dash. PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks in advance.

All it takes to remove the stereo is four small pieces of very stiff wire that will fit into the holes on the side of the stereo. (I use small nails) Push them in ONLY untill you feel some resistance. This will be the metal clips that hold the unit in the bracket. Push outward on all nails at the same time and use them to pull the unit out of the dash. To reinstall the unit simply line up the unit with the brackets and push back into the dash. Hope this helps.

Using the small nails is a good idea, but you might also try taking a wire coat hanger and cutting the ends off it so that you wind up with 2 "U" shaped pieces. This comes very close to mimicking the "real" tools, and allows you better control when applying outward pressure and pulling the unit out.
