4.2 vs 5.7 race...

I went to the track last night to see if I could improve my track times by making a couple of adjustments. I ran like I normally run and off the bat ran a crappy 16.8.

Well, I dropped the pressure in my back tires from 35 to 25 psi. After I did this I lined up again and got the best 60' time thus far. It was a low 2.4 sec. 60. Anyways, the problem with that is that I lowered the pressure too much and it made me slower all the way down the track and I pulled a measley 16.6.

NOW for the good part:

I roll up for my final approach and I see a Chevy right beside me. We had to wait a little bit so I got out to get some air. The guy in the Chevy got out and we started talking and crap. He was pretty cool until he asked why I was running a truck with a V6 at the track. Then, it got kinda ugly... His truck was a 98 Chevy with a 5.7 V8 (which is a 350). His truck was a single cab auto with a couple of bolt on mods. ie: exhaust and a K&N filter setup

I told him to race me just to see who would win for fun. HE LAUGHED AT ME! He said he would more than likely win over a Ford V6 truck. I was like ok whatever, let's go. When our turn came up we signalled to race. I was in the right lane and he was in the left. We both did our burn-outs, and I think his was a little better than mine. Anyways, we pull up to the tree, watch the lights, and go. He got a better reaction time than me and pulled ahead by about a length. By the time I hit 60 MPH I caught him, and by the time I hit 80 I was 2 lengths ahead of him. HAHAHAAAAHAHAHHAAAAAA!!!!!!! AAAHAHAHAHHAAAAA!!!! (ok, I'm better now) I didn't run very fast either. I ran a solid 16.60 and beat him by 2 lengths. Just think if I would have had a good reaction time and ran my best 16.4. He would have been seeing my taillights!

CLIFFSNOTES:
-talked to a Chevy guy and got him to race me. He said he would beat me.
-him: single cab, 350, 98 Chevy, Flowmaster exhaust, K&N filter setup
-me: single cab, 4.2 V6, 03 Ford, Flowmaster exhaust, MAC Intake, Chip
-he got the start on me by a length.
-I came back and beat him by 2 lengths.
-I celebrated with a victory dance.
-

After the race, he just left and didn't say another word. I'm glad to be the one to put him in his place.

And to think how embarrased he would be if I was driving. :P I know my friend in his regency can beat me, both bottom and top end, ok, not in the top end, our third gear is uber powerful...he only beats me by a truck length at most. That is with teh 4.8L and auto. but he has limited slip and smaller tires to help him on thebottom end.

BTW it is looking like I will have alot of cash in a few weeks, enough to buy the stage four kit from super six motorsports....

But bills come first. dang bills!

I KNEW YOU WAS A MORON TOM!! I KNEW IT!! J/J...(I am siuck and delirious tonight so bear with me)

Thye stage IV kit at SSM is basically a complete engine rebuild kit with new intake, new heads, all upgraded internals, running a Centrifugal S/C like Garrets, and they claim puts over 400 HP to the ground! And this it specifically list the Essex 4.2 V6 as the motor...I think it also includes a full exhaust system, you do this, add NOS, underdrive pulleys, aluminum 4core radiator and 2 elec fans, gears, rims/tire combo, and a drop, and you truck will embarrass the crap out of a modded lightning.

You would never add an underdrive pulley on a supercharged truck...

Not to be pessemistic, but I don't think our block can even handle 400 hp's. It'd blow. Although I may be wrong...

I think your right Joe, I do think youd need some upgraded internals....if your talking 400 RWHP, thats approx. 450-460 CHP (crank horsepower). Thats a lot for our lil 6er.

hey true4.2, maybe we need to race, i go to the temple/academy dragstrip, my best time so far has been a 15.6(5.4L ext cab) i've never been beat by a chevy truck(there was a modded GMC duramax though...it ran a 15.0) my friend had a 97 ext cab with the 5.7, i had 3 extra people with me and 3 cases of beer in the truck, and i still beat him when my truck was stock. also dodges are fun to pick on, haven't got a chance to run a hemi yet but i did run an 01 ram with a 360, headers, chip, exhaust, and 4.10 gears when i had just the exhaust done and i ran a 16.0 to his 16.3 and a dakota with a 318, and this weekend i'm running ad dakota with a 360 in it(think i might lose that one though)

Well I* was off , it is 320 not 420, oops, oh well but the kit does not include as much as I though it did, prehaps they just cahnged it. eitehr way if you beef up the block I am sure you can get alot more than 400 hp/tq out of it. I am sure with about 10k I could get one of our blocks pushing out near 500 in the numbers to the wheels
