Alt location

I am going to hook up another battery and need to know where the alternator is located. There is so much stuff under the frame it is hard to locate. I know where the A/C is located. I have a 2003 V-10 built on a van cutaway frame. Any body out there hook-up a dual battery for their truck and if you did how did you do it? Also I posted a question to the amps on my unit and was told it was 95 amps, but when I went to another web site and looked at replacement alts I was told it was 135 amps. Which is it? Thanks, Mike

Painless wiring has a kit that allows you to run dual batteries. It includes a switch that allows you to run 3 different modes. I believe one is for running the batteries in series (for jumpstarting your own vehicle), one is for running just the main battery, and one is for charging both batteries at the same time. I've installed one before, it's easy, but tedious. It took me an hour or so to install it. Summit Racing sells them. So does Jeg's.

I thought I ask a simple question and so far no one knows where the alt is located on a V-10 or how the battery is hooked up to it. I guess you guys aren't a smart as you think. I get frustrated when asking the experts out there for some help and if it doesn't have anything to do with more noise from the exhaust system or cranking out more horses no one seems to care. I guess I will stick with the RV crowd because it seems they really do know what they are talking about.

Okay, Mr Genius, if you knew what an alternator looked like, you'd be able to see that it sits right at the top of the engine. It's in the middle of the V in front of something called an "intake manifold. There should be something called a "belt", a "fan belt" that is a black, rubber type strap that goes around what is known as a "pulley". A pulley is a round, gear-type device that is bolted to the alternator. The battery hooks up with cables and these cables (there are 2 of them) go to the "posts" on the battery. One is for positive, one is for negative.

I hope I wrote that in simple enough language. Don't be a hater, it's alright to debate, but just rude to call people names...back me up, daimon1054.

Dude, That may be the lamest post I have seen on an internet BB in a few years.

You come here asking a real dumb***** question like "where is my alternator" and then lash out because no one responds to your post quick enough...

If you are that clueless that you dont know where the alternator is (or what it looks like) I'm betting you probably should put down the wrench and step away from the vehicle. Concern yourself with less technical stuff like aiming it with the big round thing and feeding it with the rubber hosey thing.

These V10 guys are about the most hospitable bunch I have ever seen.
If you had the patience of even a 3 year old I am sure someone would have answered it.

Get a grip.

jimmy, I have the patience of a saint. I normally would respond to your answer, but don't want to waste my time. Thanks anyway.
