4wd traction

I'm in the market for a F350 4wd, and was wondering....does the transmission choice make any difference on traction? In other words, does a manual trannie offer more traction on snow/ice than an auto? Thanks.

I've been driving in Alaska for over 15 years, and I can tell you that what matters the most is your driving style. On icy surfaces, you can spin two, or four wheels very easily by being too agressive with the throttle or clutch. Conversely, both manuals and automatics can be driven on snow and ice with little or no problem, assuming that the temperature of your brain matter is sufficiently higher than the temperature of the icy roads.
Just drive conservatively and you will have no problems with either tranny, unless, or course, you buy a Chevy.

I have driven both (manual/auto) in the Ice/Snow (Colorado Mountains) and I have found that it easier for me to control the vehicle with a manual transmission. Plus, I like the overall control that a manual adds. But I agree with AKV10 "...Just drive conservatively and you will have no problems..."

Specs: 2000 F-350, XLT, V10, 5 Speed, 4.30 gears(well worth the money!!), Extended cab, Short bed, CD player, Off Road Package, Camper Package...etc)
