Getting a chunk back in taxes so I'm really tossing around getting a 4" suspension lift when it comes out. A few questions...
1) Is my 3.73 gearing okay for 34" tires?
2) What does it take to recalibrate the speedo?
3) Does a 4" lift really raise it 4" or is it like a quarter pound burger - weight before cooking?
4) Am I going to sacrifice the awesome stock ride?
5) Any thing else I should be asking?
1. You should be OK staying with 3.73 only going to 34's.
2. I believe your local dealer can recal anything 35" and below. If not, Superlift makes a great recal unit.
3. It depends on what brand you get. Each one seems to be just a tad different. From what I can tell you get the most lift out of the Edge (Donahoe Racing) products.
4. If you went with the 4.5" hanger kit from Edge, you'll probably notice a better than stock ride.
Be warned though, once you start with the mods it's hard to stop. I thought 8" of lift and 38" tires would be enough, adding another 4.5" and another size or 2 in tires in the next 2 weeks.
I have the stock 18" wheels. I like the looks of them so I'd like to keep them instead of getting new rims. Plus getting new wheels is going to bump up my total cost another $1000 - pretty much more than I want to spend.
So is that unheard of: keeping stock rims? What do you guys think?
1) 4.10's would be nice, but 3.73's will do w/ a 5.4L.
2) Superlift's "TruSpeed" will recalibrate your speedometer.
3) The size (inches) of lift claimed by the manufacturers are pretty accurate for the FRONT of the vehicle ONLY. Nearly all lifts have more front lift than rear lift. They say this "levels out" the vehicle. Personally I like it a little higher in the rear, but to each his/her own.
4) With the type of suspension on the F150 you'll pretty much retain a stock ride. Just make sure you get good shocks/coilovers. Most suspension lift packages include cheap shocks... you probably won't be happy with these. Most offer an upgraded shock for an additional cost.
How wide are the 34" tires you're planning on getting?
