brake disc

I have read many of the posts on this forum. Please someone help me! I am trying to rermove the brake disc to do the front wheel bearings. I ahve a94 ranger 4 x 4 with auto locking hubs. I removed the adjusting nut and that is as far as I got . Am I missing a step? The outer bearing and the brake disc won't budge! ( Yes I removed the caliper ) Please give me some insight as to what the problem is. I shoudn't need a puller right? Thanks in advance for yopur help.

Sounds to me like you've done everything right, and yes, you don't need a puller. You should be able to simply pull of the disc/hub assembly. But I'm curious as to why you need to "do the wheel bearings". Was there a failure of a wheel bearing, and if so, were there several miles put on the rig with a failed wheel bearing? If so, I'd be suspecting that the inner race of the bearing was spinning on the spindle causing galling and other nasty heat related damage resulting in disc/hub removal problems.

Cowboy, I think youare right. I started to hear a grinding noise on Friday. I drove approx. twenty miles home with it in that condition. When I took the wheel off I found ground meteal inside the hub cap. Lokking at the outer bearing there are three or four ball beerarings missing and the outer casing is in my hand! Bad news I know. How do I rectify this situation ?

I really don't have a quick and sure answer. At this point I'd probably grab my wheel puller and try to pull off the rotor and I would not worry about rotor damage. I'd be expecting to replace that. Likewise on the spindle. I think the spindle is anchored with four bolts but I'm not 100% sure. If it is, you may be able to unbolt the spindle and replace the spindle + frozen hub/rotor/bearings/grease seal with a new one. If you cannot access the bolts (which will probably spin since you might not be able to grab onto them) that hold the spindle on due to them being covered by the rotor, you will probably have to get a cutting torch. It's hard to say without me seeing it. If I'm right about the four bolts, apply lots of liquid wrench or other before attemping to remove. You may be able to hold the bolt with a pliers (careful, don't totally mangle the threads) and avoid the torch. Removing this will be a challenge; save thread destruction as a last resort since the torch will be next.

Hye Cowboy, after much banging and cutting ( thank god for Dremel ) I was able to get the disc and bearings off. Yes I completely desroyed the disc but I saved the spindle! I looked up the price of the spindle in my Ford pricing book and it cost around $ 300.00 dollars! So I knew I had to find a way to save it. Anyway i'm about to put it back together, hopefully everything goes smothly from here. Thanks for all your help!
