Expy Owners;
I had my engine oil changed last week at a Shell Express Lube. They asked me if I ever had the differential lube changed. I said no. They asked if I would like it changed with the "recommended" synthetic lube. I said yes, since the truck has 48,000 miles on it. So, they changed it. Now I notice that during cornering I am getting a shuttering feel and sound. I have a 2000 EXPY with the towing package and limited slip dif. Do you think the Shell Express Lube techs put in the wrong lube? I never heard or felt this before and I am concerned that I am tearing something up in the dif.
I got the same situation when I had it changed a few months ago at the Ford dealership. It is even more pronounced with a trailer/load on the back. I was hoping that this is just the clutches working better with new friction modifier in the oil. Am I correct in my thinking?
For the price they charged me, $38.00, they better not have forgotten. Sounds like a visit to Shell Express Lube is in order (I doubt they will admit to any wrong doing).
They forgot it!!! It is like 7 bucks from FORD and is not sold in auto parts stores at least not in AZ. Also the recommended 75-140w Syn oil from ford is 28 dollars a quart thats right a quart and the rear holds 6 pints. So for 38 dollars including labor you did good. I hope for your sake though that they did not put in a simple cheap 75-90 weight oil. The heavy EXPY needs the viscosity of 140 weight esp for towing and the tolerences were designed for the thicker oil. I can only speak for the 99 model year though.
