Has anybody heard of problems with the clutch on 5spd. V10's? Mine is in the shop for the third time in six months. The problem starts with the pedal starting to get more and more free travel in the top. It then gets to the point that it will go completly soft and stay on the floor until I pull it up with my foot to where the spring pops it back up. It will then have 1-2" of free travel from the top before ANY resistance is met. first fix was to bleed the system, NOPE. Then replace ALL the clutch hydraulics (master, slave, & hoses), NOPE. Now they are trying to tell me "it seems fine to us". Well I special ordered it and picked it up as it came of the delivery trailer and it's not the same. I have a whopping 20,000 miles logged. PLEASE help.
I had a similiar problem with my 99 350 power stroke. I parked the truck one night and the next morning I could hardly engage the transmission. The play in the clutch was the same as you described only mine never went all the way down. There must be a problem with the cylinders. At the time they told me they were on back order and bled the system to hold me while the part came in. Good for 10000 miles the rep and mechanic told me. So I drove north to wisconsin and had the thing go again in under 1500 mile. My dealer there replaced it with one from a V-10, apparently the only difference is the size of the push rod. No problems since then.
I too have had the same problems. At 32500 miles this happened to my 99 F250 Powerstroke 4X4. Luckly under warrenty. Ford did the following:"installed updated hydraulic clutch line and pedal, replace cutch slave cly. and Master cyl, blead brakes. Well now 40,000 miles later it is broken again. They will not work on the truck unless I pay for it. I think that is stupid for me to have to pay for it when it is only lasting no more than 40,000 miles. They said tough. I have now writen 15 letters to many people in Ford and sending this week will let you know what they said. This is scary when it leaves you stranded in the middle of no where with two children.
