Hello All, this is my first post. I purchased a 2000 Expy yesterday and after the dealer tried to hose me for $2700 for a 3/36 Premium care ESP Warranty, I have decided to buy an extended warranty. Warrantydirect.com looks the best, but the dealer says they won't deal with companies they have to call and get authorization from due to the amount of time they waste on the phone. Any of you have a good experiance with Warranty Direct or anyone else? Thanks in advance!
I bought used car from the Chevy/Olds dealership. (Sorry, back before I saw the light.) I had 3 months factory warranty left. They offered an extended warranty package. Price was fair, good to 100k miles. I took the car in after the factory warranty expired.........the service manager tells me they dont accept that warranty companies business. I can pay, and get the warranty company to reimburse me, or, I could have the work done, and my car would sit on the lot for however long it tool for the dealership to recieve payment from the warranty people. That being said, he told me of people still waiting months after the work being done. I had seen the light. Traded it in for a Ford.
I made sure everyone was uncomfortable. With customers in the service area, people in the lobby, people in the lot shopping around. I told the service manager, the sales manager, the salesman, and the finance guy who pushed the warranty my story...making sure every potential customer heard.
They were happy to see me leave, but not all the customers that looked like a deer in the headlights.
Lucky for you though....my extended warranty company was shut down. Maybe it wont be as bad.
As long as you keep your vehicle in good shape, an extended warantee is not really worth it. I myself hate warantees. Either way we're paying, I'd rather have no warantee and pay a few thousand less for the car. The whole point of warantees is so that the car company can make more money from you, not less.
A few years ago, I would have agreed without reservation that Warranty's are a waste of money. Enter: 1996 Dodge Caravan ES 3.8l that got a bad tranny. That repair alone was $1600! The warranty covered it, but other than that, I didn't get any use out of it. I basically paid for a new transmission over the length of the loan.
Being active duty military, the likelyhood that I will deploy overseas is quite high. Of course, something serious will go wrong while I'm gone leaving my wife and 2 kids +3 daycare kids without transportation. I'm not sure I want her dealing with the stress of a $500 plus visit to the dealer without me to confer with.
:sigh: having said all that, the warranty might level the playing field just a little if this truck turns out to be a lemon.
