I've got a 96 F150 2wd with the 300 I6, and I drive 95% interstate miles. The truck (and hence the shocks) have 132K on them. Needless to say, it rides a little rough on the expansion joints in the highway. I need some advice on replacements. Where to buy, what would work best for my driving style, etc. I don't have a lot to spend, and I'd like to get by as cheaply as possible. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Try doing a search, there's several posts on shock preferences. Remember that you get what you pay for, so a cheapie shock won't ride as good or last very long. It may cost you a few more bucks to go with a KYB or Monroe or similar. It's often cheaper to buy shocks online, like from one of this site's sponsors. I buy all of my shocks and most other parts from Summit Racing Equipment, though.
It really depends on what you are willing to spend on a set of four shocks. $150? $300? The self-adjusting models like the Edelbrock IAS are quite pricy at $70-$80 each. You can get a decent shock for about $30-$40 each with a lifetime warranty from Pro Comp, Rancho, etc. Some also have a buy-3-get-one-free deal, like Rancho, so you could get 4 RSX shocks for around $150.
I had all your info in there for your truck, but it doesnt link straight to the info I found, but you'll find it again. Oriellys has Monroe. AutoZone has RedRyder. You might try NAPA or CarQuest too.
