Problem: My CHK SUSPENSION warning light goes on about an hour after I start driving my 00 expedition, on normal paved road.
Just like what the manual recommends, I just stop and restart the engine then the CHK SUSPENSION warning light goes off and the compressor starts to work again.
Has anybody experienced this? What could be wrong with the system, if any?
A couple weeks ago, the very same thing happened to me. I threatened my Expy with removing the entire LLS system and going with a std. suspension and it stopped. There are SO many parts to the LLS system - sensors that could have gotten wet, corrosion on connectors, the moon being full...
I realize that's not much comfort, but if it remains a sporadic problem that goes away by restarting the truck, I'd let that be the fix until something REALLY breaks. I'm not comfortable doing suspension work, so I'd rather have it really broken before paying someone to fix it rather than have a mechanic charge me for a diagnostic to tell me that nothing's wrong.
Just a guess but maybe your system has a slow leak and the compressor is overworking. I believe there is a thermal cut-out that disables the compressor motor for awhile to prevent it from just burning itself up when it has to overwork. Course...like you mentioned, it could be an intermittant sensor problem, or your relay beginning to fail, or...or...or....
Your 'wait and hope' strategy may work! But...I would bet you will end up with bigger problems eventually. If and when that time comes, you may want to consider a ONE TIME FIX and go with the coil spring conversion kit.
had the same issues with our 99 EB last week , the compresser failed to kick on , got the CHECK SUSP and we were getting weird directional info on the compass. Then Monday morning my wife went to start the Expy and nothing..
turns out the battery was slowly dying and then finally crapped out.
Replaced it with a Motorcraft battery and all is working perfectly again and my cmpass and rear LLS is working fine.
