I have an edelbrock 750 carb on my 460 and to get it started i have to pump it a few times then hold it to the floor before it will start. When it starts it wont idle worth crap. It acts like only the secondaries are providing fuel...i had it running and took a look at the primary jets when i pumped it no fuel was coming out of them. Also when i look down into the carb(with butterflies open) i can see a puddle of fuel in the bottom of the intake. What is goin on here?
What kind of choke? Electric? Is the choke closing when cold? If you have to pump the intake full of fuel to start it then it sounds like the choke may be the problem. As far as the no squirt goes, I'm not really familiar with the Edelbrock, but sounds like the accelerator pump isn't working or the fuel pump is going/gone. Check first for adequate fuel going to the carb. As to fuel puddling in the intake, either the accelerator pump IS working and you are pumping it in there, or the float is sticking and it's flooding out. Also is this a new or old carb? Has this carb run OK on the engine before or not? If it's an old carb or a new problem it may just need to be rebuilt.
I had a problem on an e-brok where one side of the accel pump nozzels was plugged. The accel pump nozzels are mounted beneath the carb top plate. There should be 2 small tubes at the top of the carb body held in place with a screw or 2. It is mounted between the primary bores. Remove the screws and remove the nozzles and clean them out.
This page has a picture of the accel pump nozzels:
