Does anyone have a set of 3.00 gears for a Dana 61 for sale? If you know of a set in the junk yard some where let me know. 1980-84 E-F-250`s semi-float door code C-2, 22, 32. Thanks Willis
Maybe it's none of my business but why would anyone be searching for this ratio?
I had an F250 in the mid 80's with 3.00's front and rear. It was only good for the highway when unloaded, terrible!!!
I regeared to 3.73 (much better with the stock tires)
Later regeared to 4.56 with 35" tires.
dana 61??? i've never heard of this rear end model...only 44's and 60's...
i've got 3:55's behind a t-18 4 spd and a 300-6 in my 1/2 ton, and it does pretty well for me, overall, but i will be switching to 3:73's when i have the money and a different truck to build up...my truck is slowly dying (297,000 miles on any truck makes it old...body, motor, and all...

Dana/Spicer has been making axles since before WW2.
From golf carts to dump trucks.
For the Big 3 truck lines, Jeep and several others.
They made many different models.
In the 70's the EPA was after the automakers (and truckmakers) to increase gas mileage (reduce pollution)
Ford used a lot of Dana 60's in their vehicles, however there wasn't a gear lower than 3.54 available for the 60 (there wasn't enough room in the case)
Dana/Spicer remachined the 60 housing, made 3.00, 3.07, 3.31 gearsets and installed them for better mileage.
They also put 3.54's, 3.73's 4.10's and 4.56's into the 61's.
Just because the housing has a 60 in it's casting, does not necessarily mean it's a 60!
That is why the tag on the cover (Bill of Materials) is so important!
They also stamped the BOM # into the axle tube near the right side spring perch. If mother nature's been kind to the truck it might still be legible!
It will be a 6+1 digit # starting with a "6" on Fords
