Engine ID Numbers

Does anyone know of a website or phone number that I can call where I can get information on running the numbers on the engine that I have? This way I can find out exactly what I have.

If you have a 76, it could be a 360, or 300 I6, if it were 4x4, and if it were 4x2, it could be 300 I6, 302, 360, 390, or 460.
