installing intake

im installing my cast 4 barrell intake on my 390, and when i got the front and back intake gaskets outta the box, these have no little tabs on the ends to go in the notch on the head intake gaskets, they just sit there and theres a gap at each end, it doesnt look like it would keep it from leaking at all, why i ask is cuz the last time i overhauled an engine the gaskets had the tabs on the end and actually looked somewhat like they would work. so do the gaskets i have, will they work properly or what do you guys suggest.

P.S. let me know if you need me to be more specific.

Just use hi temp RTV. Use a thin film along the block to keep the gaskets it place. and a dab of RTV at both ends.

yeah use a good amount of rtv. guys use rtv as a primary sealer sometimes and it will work out fine for the intake seals. make sure you use plenty of it dont be cheap with it.

First mock up the intall, as in lay the gaskets down and set the manifold in, then take a look for your low spots. Add a little extra RTV where the low spots are just to be safe, as well as a little extra dab in the corners.
Should be good to go. --Mike
