another c6 hard shift question
I've got a 79 F150, 4x4 reg. cab, 351M, C6. It has a "kick in the pants" shift from 2-3. One mechanic relative tells me that a hard shift is the best thing for an auto tranny (makes it last longer), and that is what a "shift kit" will do for you. Another guy just looked at it and said it has a bad modulator valve and should be replaced. I've searched here and seen how easy it is to replace the modulator, but my question is whether I should? I kinda like the hard shift, so my question is whether it is hurting the tranny or if, indeed, it might be better to leave it like it is?

I'd leave it how it is. Firmer shifts=less slippage of the clutches=longer tranny life.
The modulator is easy to replace, remove one bolt from the clamp that holds it in, remove and replace with the new one. It is located on the pass. side rear of the trans case and has a vacuum line hooked up to it.
