I'm looking for the same information.. My mechanic will be installing one on my truck in about 45 min. $277.00 installed and if I don't like it after the weekend he'll remove it and no charge to me. Does anybody here have any pros or cons on the trans command?
OK somebody here has got to have some comments. well I've got my truck back now, so far I love it, drive it normal and soft shifts, step on it and it downshifts with authority and shifts firm throughout the process. I'm pulling my 32' trailer this weekend, thats when I'll notice the biggest change, I'll post back end of next week.
That is way to much money!!!! For that kind of money you could get a programmer or chip (I know the chips arn't out for '04s yet) and you could do tons of more things to your truck, correct for bigger tires, check codes, up timming, ADD LINE PRESSURE, take out SHIFT DELAYS, take out DOWN SHIFT DELAYS, and so much more, so you are paying the same for something that does half of what a programmer for the same price, or am I missing something, hmmm.......
"For that kind of money you could get a programmer or chip "
what kind of chip or programmerare you recommending? dont i have to know the programming codes. how do i do the programming without any prior knowledge. Do those programmers come with the detailed instructions?
i am thinking about getting the transcommand unless i can get some good reasons to go with something else. please help
thanks
Yes the progammers do come with detailed instructions, I don't know if they have programmers out for the '04s yet, you will need to get ahold of Ken at Motorhaven, it's the online store at this site. You would only need to knoe what code your truck has if you went with a chip, the code is on the door frame, no big deal. I believe everybody really likes the Diablo programmer the most, but don't know what I would buy. I kinda asked the guys when I posted, but I would REALLY think that the programmer would do everything the transcommander would do and soooo much more, maybe I am wrong.....
I don't think the chips do the same as the transcomander but I am not sure. I would like to find out excatly what the TC will do vs a chip.
I have skipped a chip because I do not want to go to superunleaded.
Just because you get a chip doesn't mean Ken has to do any programming for the engine, if you can run a chip on your truck ('03-) then you would have the same thing for a lot cheaper ($212) It would be worth it just for the differnt tranny programming, it sure would be nice to no the differnce between a chips tranny programming and the transcommand programming, I would bet money they are the same, if anything KEN could up the line pressure more then the transcommand, giving you even firmer shifts then the transcommand. I had a chip burned and it does everything the guys with the transcommand does, instant downshifts (no delay) high line pressure (barks the tires) no shift delay (justs bams right into the next gear) and so much more. It would be interesting if someone could tell us the differnce......
I could be wrong here, but I think the main difference is that the Banks unit senses load, RPM, and throttle position to determin how much pressure the pump put out, the chip ups the pressure all the time. Anybody with a chip agree with this? I've had my Transcommand on less than 24hrs, but I did get the chance to pull a pretty good grade last night, I pushed the throttle down, and the only thing I can say is I'm glad I have a crew cab, cause if there was a window behind my head I'd be replacing it today.. The transcommand shifts slightly firmer at normal easy everyday driving, but as soon as you give it some throttle or load, look out..
just talked to a hypertech tech. and sked him about this issue. he said the only thing the Hypertech Programmer III will do on my ford f350 powerstroke tranny is increase line pressure permanently. no shift poin adjustments or anything else on the tranny possible
I have had a Banks TransCommand on my 2000 F 350 V10 for over 3 years and it works great. It was easy to install and it comes with a jumper plug so if you are experiencing trans problems you can unplug the TransCommand, plug in the jumper plug, and you are back to stock (great item for troubleshooying).
I also have a Hypertech programmer but by-passed the section that changes the shift points (the TransCommand takes care of that). I wasn't comfotable with changing shift points with the programmer. I guess I don't know enough about the programmer and the shift point settings but with the Banks unit I don't have to worry about it.
Banks has great support also. The TransCommand came with a 2 year warranty. After about a year and 10 months the shifts felt funny and I got a "check engine light". I disconnected the transcommand and put the jumper plug in and the problem went away. I called Banks and they told me to send them my transcommand and they would send me a new one. No other problems to date.
