I am new to the site, boy what have I been missing...
I have a '99 F 250 2X and I seem to be having some front end mild clunking...It sounds almost like a shock mount is loose or bushings are worn??? ...
I have looked over every moving part on the suspension and every thing feels tight and shows no wear marks. Except for the bushings on the track arms where they attach to the frame... maybe a 1/4" when I jacked the truck from directly underneath the bushing...it was the same on both sides.
I notice it without regard to turning. Sounds just like something is loose...but nothing seems to be loose? I did replace the steering stablizer as the original one had little to no resistence. I mostly notice the sound/feeling at slow speeds on semi rough roads... Thanks for the help!
try tightening the sway bar end links and the cab mounts. They may both feel tight but really torque on them. I see a lot of those cause clunks and popping noises and re-torqueing them usually does the trick.
I had the same problem on my 01 250. Hitting bumps on rough roads, made a popping sound right at the front of the cab. Turns out it was my Rt front sway bar link. The part was about 45.00, easy enough to replace.
I had the same problem on my '99 250 4x4 SD PSD. it turned out to be the sway bar end links. The bushings at the sway bar end of the links were gone so it was metal to metal. Don't know where you are Bucky but you paid way too much!!! I got mine at a local parts store and paid $25.00 for both end links. They were made by Moog and looked just like the OEM parts. Hope this helps.
Just looking at the recalls for my 02 and they have one for a front end rattle, clunk noise, ( brake caliper pin ) actually a few different front end rattles related to brake calipers. Maybe worth checking into that for your year too.
Checked and re-torqed all bushing and body mounts...none were loose a couple I tightened a little but the noise is still there.
I had my wife stop by Tire Pro's where we just purchased tires at, and they checked out the suspension and said that everything was tight and that they really didn't know what the problem was...
ram1: Which pins were the recalls on? I am hoping that I am just overlooking something.
Thanks for the help, I hope we can figure it out...when we do I'll be sure to let everyone know.
Justin
Yep, I think it is a TSB, sorry bout that, but on this website I pulled it up and entered the year. It came up with a few different concerns with rattles being traced to front caliper pins? Not really sure what they mean there, but boy, I hope we can figure it out Anchor, I hate things I can't figure out like that... Let me know what you find out..
The mystery has been solved...but I am still a little confused as to what happened???
The upper caliper bolt had sheared off, I just had to replace it and it was fixed...the question is did the shop that just put on the new tires do something...I guess we'll never know.
Thanks for the help, and keep those 7.3's growling!
