In cabin filtration was an option. Don't know beginning when but assuming '97. My '98 doesn't appear to have it and I tried to look it up for another post/same question in my 2001 Ford Customer Service manual cd-rom but no luck. I haven't found out if filter is in cab or under hood. There should be a vent though where you could regulate % outside (fresh) air coming in. I haven't looked in my owner's manual yet but it could have info.
If you do a search in here and in the Expedition forum you'll find some posts on this. The cabin filters went under the dash. I've never seen one in real. They are rare, but someone, I think in the Expy forum, posted a picture of it.
