I bought my 04 SD 4X4 PSD 350 for traveling and carrying a slid-in camper. Has any one actually put their truck on a scale and weighed it with a full load of fuel and family on board? The "book" says the GVWR is 9700 and the cargo weight max is 1682#. In my head that tells me the weight of the truck is about 8000#.
Anything less than 8000 can be added to the cargo weight to fluff out the range of slide-in's I can look at. I'm scouting around this weekend but it doesn't maks any sense to look at a heavy camper beyond my carry capacity.
Look at the faq sheet under Weights & payload. Not sure exactly what truck you have but from your sig it looks like the curb lbs of your truck is 6169 lbs. Unless you have the DRW. Figure the gas and people in the truck you still have a bit to go before 8000. But not every one is the same so only you can do the final math..
i have an f250 cc sb psd, the last time i went to get some rock the truck was 7910#s with me in it and about 3/4 tank of gas. i have a 9 ft lance camper it weighs 2550 wet(water tanks, holding take and lp full)that does not include anything i put in to it. just figure if you put a good sized camper in there (8 1/2' or bigger) you are going to be over.here's some things to get for you truck to make hauling a camper safer and easier
1) a pair of superduty airbags for the rear
2) an after market rear antiwaybar(if you truck did not come with one)
3) rancho rs9000 shocks at all four corners
ps. the brochure for lance campers recomends the airbags and shocks by name
one last thing WHAT EVER YOU DO!! get electric jacks on the camper!!!!!!!!!! i have the manual ones and i kick myself in the butt everytime i set it up or take it down.
I believe your payload to be 3530#. That probably assumes a gas engine. You have to deduct the weight of passengers and fuel from that number. In addition I would think the difference between gas and PSD would have to be deducted also which is about 500# at least. Say 400# for pass., 350# fuel and 500# PSD and your left with in the neighborhood of 2300# for the "wet" camper which is not enough. My numbers are out of thin air but you get the idea.
