It's not like this is a surprise or anything, especially living in the area all of my life, but:
YOU SUCK!
Okay, to fill all you outsiders in and if this was touched on while I was floating away, my bad, but this has GOT TO STOP somewhere, right? Point is, H-town got this fancy rail and now people's vehicles have turned into train MAGNETS!
It's like when you were picking on your kid brother and were like "Excuse me, your face got in the way of my fist" as you socked him upside his head.
WOW, I ahve not been IN h-town in over 4 years and have not lived there in 6......so I have never even heard of this rail before.
But know that tx drivers drive better tahn anyone else I have ever seen, they are more curtious, pay better attention, know how to handle their truck better, AND USE TURN SIGNALS!!
OH Jimmy, you haven't been here in a long time have you? If Houston drivers are some of the best, Heaven help the rest of the country! Not a day goes by that I don't get cut off by some idiot diving across 4 to 6 lanes of traffic to get to an exit because he was too good to move over in time and have to wait an extra 5 seconds to get off the freeway. When your light turns green, everyone waits at least 7 seconds before starting across the intersection to let the 3-5 cars that are going to run the red light across. We had a guy the other day that was watching a movie on his DVD visor screen while talking on his cell phone with one hand and eating with his other hand. And the last time I saw a turn signal in operation was during a safety inspection!
Probably the best insight into Houston drivers is that the pedestrian who ran out in front of the train was transported to the hospital by ambulance... which was hit by a car ONE MINUTE into the ride!
Almost all of these rail/auto accidents have been because someone was making an illegal left turn.

Houston is my least favorite place in Tx to drive. On my drive down I-10 then south to Orlando I think drivers got better after I got east of Baton Rouge, with the exception of the Orlando area and all the lost people from out of state ther.
I'll take Austin traffic to Houston any day. Drivers there may be more aggressive but they're a lot more predictable.
I'll second the light rail accidents being drivers fault. Watch the signs and don't turn when you're not supposed to, it's not like the train will stop for you. Simple as that.
Born in H-Town, and lived there for 6 yrs. My grandmother lives there, and every time i go down to visit her, it seems that the drivers there get exponentially worse, and NOBODY has insurance down there. BEWARE... if u get in a wreck down there, ur screwed. Consider yourself lucky if the person that hits you doesnt take off, and they actually speak English. The town is over-run with illegal foreigners (no offense), and they seem to be the worst drivers around. I once saw some guy back out of his apartment complex, and backed up across six lanes of traffic, and into the grocery store parking lot across the street, and almost caused three wrecks in the process. He didnt bother to even look where he was going, or even look for other cars driving down the road. He just backed out like he was the only driver on the road, and expected all the other drivers to just yield to him. And dont even get me started on turn signal use (or the lack thereof). As for the rail accidents.... many of the drivers cant read what the signs say, so they dont know to follow them, or they are too busy yacking on their cell-phones. If all the signs in that town were printed in every language spoken in the world, the number of accidents would go down substantially. And, the major highways are ALWAYS, ALWAYS under constuction, which only adds to the nightmare that freeway driving down there is. The crime down there is unbelievable too. A couple years back, a little kid got set on fire because he didn't want to give his brand new bike to a group of mexicans that were trying to steal it. Stuff like this happens all the time down there...One reason why we moved. away.
i can totally agree. grew up driving in the houston area. i'm from kingwood. driven in LA, salt lake city, denver, dallas, boston(well, there is a tie), and various large cities. houston drivers suck. especially on the highway during the day and westheimer at nite.
you can't go 80mph in rush hour and change 4 lanes at once.
I was pulling a trailer (my home at the time) through Houston in 1985, minding my own business when a load of newspapers came off a semi. I couldn't go anywhere, so I kept on going through the flying paper. Windshield got covered; paper everywhere! I managed to get stopped as did everyone else and no accidents occured. After the big "surprise" and about 1 mile up the highway, my Ram Charger caught on fire at the muffler! A bunch of paper got caught under the vehicle and boy was that an experience! Haven't been back to Houston since, but it looks like I may be heading that way next month. I think I will fly.
i remember when i was 6 and my dad was driving an 15-pass econoline(chevron van) home from downtown(i went with him for the day) on the eastex freeway. the rear axle detached(a common problem on 80's e-vans). people wouldn't let him over, honking at him. finally got over to the shoulder, tried waving down a sherriff...nope, he went right on by. my dad was very upset, at ford and houston drivers.
and if you fly, watch out for the *******es working in the airport(mainly bush intercontinental).
dallas is just as bad with trash...i remember punting an empty cardboard box down I-35 for about a mile on the way to utah. it was with the integra too...not fun. well, it was kinda funny after.

You've never been to Dallas then, I swear I am the only one that uses turn signals anymore. Never been to houston but i have heard its miserable in the summers.
Not to hijack the thread, but what happens when the language filter is set off. It sounds like alarms start going off all over the place, supercomputer kick into over drive, satlites start linking up, the terror alert level rises, the defcon is raised a level or two, all the modarators, administrators, and ken all recieve calls on the secure, decicated phone (aka the red phone) no matter what time it is. Finally, the FTE emergancy maniagment comand center(FTE-EMCC) is open and able to start handling the crisis.
that is ridiculous. and all people thought when they saw it on the news that nite. "oh, i drive by that all the time, i guess i could have helped if i would have seen him". doubt it, people are too much in a rush to help out even if they know they could be in the limelight for a few minutes.
I see it all the time on the news. I live in Katy, Texas and I work for Shell Oil and I use to work downtown. I am glad I do not work in downtown anymore!!
