Wait to Start Engine Light
95 F-250 Diesel, the truck just stalled and will not start again. It will start and run for a few seconds after I spray some starting fluid in the air intake. I also noticed that after it died, that the "Wait to Start Engine" light no longer comes on. Some how the two symptoms are related, I just don't know how. I don't have any sophisticated test equipment. I have heard that it may be the fuel heater??? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

NEVER EVER EVER Spray starting fluid into a diesel, if the glow plugs came on with starting fluid in the cc, you are major league screwed and it WILL damage your engine, and that could be whats wrong.
Im really sorry if thats the case, look into it some more.
And BTW, if you are lucky the above is not the problem and you have a glow plug issue or a fuel delivery issue, but the lack of the wait to start light tells me its glow plugs, or something that tells them or aids in the process of them coming on....

Thanks for the reply Kevin, I heard that it might be the fuel heater located underneath the fuel filter, I was hoping to hear from others who have experienced the same problem. Learn from their experience.

I had somewhat of a similar problem a year ago. My truck just Quit. My wait to start light still came on and cycled properly though. It turned out that my problem was the inline fuel pump on the rail.
As for yours, possibly glow plug relay and pump have gone bad, but I would suggest looking at a wireing or relay problem first. Sounds like some wires may have chaffed or relays or fuses are bad. Especially since you have 2 problems at once.

you can use starting fluid on diesels, just be safe the best way to use it is to spray while the engine is cranking. The stickers saying not to are because many people can over do it and really cause some major problems

un-plug the connection to your fuel heater, replace the fuses and see what happens. I have seen a lot of dt444e's that have not had the water drained from the bowl and it rusts the heater wires.
