would it be feasable to swap a carbed 460 big block in to a 97-98 f-150 and drive it on the street? i've got chip, intake, exhaust, and electric fan on my 02 and i'm really not very impressed with the results. i love the rest of the truck but i think ford could have gave it a lil more power. so i that is the reason i'm thinking of selling it and getting a 97-98 ext cab short bed and swaping the engine, gas mileage really does not matter at all, i would like overdrive so i can run highway speeds with the truck still quiet though. and A/C because i live in texas, but how is the computer going to intefere with this? any and all help is app. thanks in advance justin
The best thing to do is DONT. I am not saying it cant be done. But you are going to have to build a new truck. And then there is the question of emissions testing being done in more, and more places that would not pass the truck. The days of swapping one moter for another without rebuilding a car, are just about gone i am affraid. Good luck with what ever decide. I would personly like to see it done
I'd like to see that swap too....it would be a fun truck
I'm with the other Dave though. It's going to be major work.
I cant think of any parts under the hood, other than the battery maybe, that wont have to be changed. None of the accessories such as alternator, P/S pump or A/C compressor will bolt onto a 460.
If you want OD with a 460 you'd have to use an E4OD transmission, probably with an aftermarket wiring harness and standalone PCM. I'm not sure that a 460 E4OD would clear the transmission tunnel at the front. On the 460 the bellhousing goes up a long ways.
I'm not sure what it would take to make an oil pan fit. The 460 has the oil pump in the front, probably right where the crossmember is.
How about supercharging your 5.4 instead?
