Well the 4.56 swap fell thru so looks like I'll be looking to swap in a similar rear end with whatever I can use. But the thing is which ones can I use? I've got the 1994 Flange Type differential, would one from an eariler f150 work?
The difference I believe is in the yoke, correct? There is flange type and u bolt type. Could I use one from an 1986+ f150?
Any feedback would be great. Just looking to for 3.55 ratio and I can't get into changing the ratio because my front u joints need to be done.
Oh one more question - How long does it take to replace the 3 front u joints? Either by shop or by yourself? I know you have to take the spindles, hubs and drop the diff, but how hard is it to do?
There are a few rear ends in my local classifides and they are for 86+ year f150's. Could it be possible to swap a u-bolt for a flange type? There are alot of these rear ends in the paper and I want to know if I could use one.
Also, there is an '83 f150 9" rear end and a dana 44 posi front for sale, would that go under my truck or not? What are the differences between this and my '94 besides a speedo?
Moose, I'm guessing that if you get the u-bolt style axle, as long as you get the driveshaft with it, you should be ok, or you can have your driveshaft rebuilt using the u-bolt yoke, but you will have to get a hold of the yoke if the driveshaft shop doesn't have one.
K so I'll start calling around. Will basically any 8.8 work? I just want the housing right? Not anything else, what years had the u-bolt and what years had the pinion style? As long as it's the correct ratio and stuff, what about the speedometer sensor is it different in '94?
Alright guys well she's toast. The rear end is almost gone and I need this info really fast. If anyone can tell me if other rear ends are compatible that would be great. I need some help here because I have no truck to drive!
I'm basically looking at '87+ rear ends but which year turned over to flange type?
No No No guys I have a flange type. So I was wondering what years switched from u-bolt to flange cause I have a flange style yoke. Alright. Thanks tho I guess I'm going to pick up any old rear end as long as it's in good condition. Cause my truck ain't goin nowhere.
