A dim passenger side headlight problem went away when I replaced my battery 3 or 4 months ago; but recently returned. I assumed that the bulb needed to be replaced; but after switching it yesterday, the problem was still there. I jiggled the cable and it was fine until I got home as it had gone dim again. Another '00 X owner happened into the Pep Boy's parking lot and said that our headlight cables were too short and problematic. I thought I noticed one of the wires loose or separated. Has anyone else had this problem; and what is the best way to fix it?
I recently got an extended warranty...I guess this should be covered. (This is a '00 Limited 4X4 V10 X with 68K).
The voltage drop due to an undersized wires is a known problem. A number of people have installed a heavy duty harness from SUVlights.com. SUVlights link With this harness, you unplug the connectors from the headlights and connect them to the harness. The harness adds a couple of relays along with larger wires. I'll be adding mine soon
But it does sound like you have a loose connection. When you replaced the bulb, I hope you used Sylvania SilverStars. They make a real difference.
I have the same problem. I've replaced the bulb several times and the problem still re-occurs. I'm thinking it has to something to do with the harness. More later.
